The Patriarch Reiterates His Rejection of the Omission of the Maronite Christian Head of State

Maronite Patriarch Beshara al-Rahi announced the installation of a mosaic of Saint Sharbel in St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican on the morning of next Friday. His remarks came during his sermon at Sunday Mass in Bkerke. He noted, "We ask where Lebanon stands today, while influential figures from various parliamentary blocs, parties, and those with personal and questionable agendas insist on severing the head of state by obstructing the election of this head." He emphasized that "we cannot accept the omission of the Maronite Christian head of state." Al-Rahi stressed that "it is unacceptable to link the election of the president to stopping the war on Gaza," pointing out that "there has been much talk about international movements aimed at demarcating borders, even though these borders are already delineated and established. All of this is happening while the presidential seat is vacant, and with a government that lacks full powers." He clarified that "we call for the implementation of international resolutions regarding the south, and we urge against any border modifications in light of the presidential vacancy."
