Israeli soldiers killed a member of the Islamic Resistance Movement "Hamas" whom the Israeli army claimed was one of the attackers who threw Molotov cocktails at a military point in the occupied West Bank. The army stated that the attack targeted the point near the Israeli settlement of Psagot. It added, "The soldiers, who were carrying out routine activity in the area, spotted the suspects and responded with live fire. Two of the attackers were neutralized and taken for medical treatment." The Palestinian Ministry of Health reported that one of the men later died from his injuries. Hamas, which governs the Gaza Strip but also has strong support in the West Bank, announced that the deceased was one of its members. Violence in the West Bank has escalated over the past year amid increased raids by the Israeli army and a rise in attacks by settlers on Palestinian villages, in addition to a wave of Palestinian attacks targeting Israelis.
