The Japanese Nikkei index closed lower on Wednesday, marking a decline for the second consecutive session amidst a wave of profit-taking following recent market gains. The Nikkei fell by 0.89% at the close, registering 30,682.68 points, a level not reached since August 1990. In the previous session, it retreated from a peak of 31,352.53 points. The broader Topix index also dropped by 0.42%, recording 2,152.40 points.
