The Swedish Football Association announced on Monday the appointment of former Denmark striker Jon Dahl Thomasson as the head coach of the national team, making him the first foreigner ever to take charge of the Swedish team. Thomasson, who recently resigned from his position at Blackburn Rovers in the English League One, signed a contract that runs until the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, with an automatic extension should the team qualify. The 47-year-old coach stated, "I am very much looking forward to starting this wonderful mission and meeting the fans, the players, and of course, the media in Sweden. I am ready to think, talk, and dream in blue and yellow." Thomasson, who has played 112 matches for Denmark, takes over the Swedish national team from Jan Andersson, who left after Sweden's failure to qualify for Euro 2024, finishing third in their group behind Belgium and Austria.
