Pope Francis stated in a new book, excerpts of which were published today by the newspaper "Corriere della Sera," that he does not intend to resign from his position as he feels his health is good enough to carry out his duties. The book "Life - My Story Through History," which is set to be released in Italian and English on March 19, mentions Pope Francis saying, "This is a remote hypothesis because I have no strong reasons to consider resigning from my position."
Francis, who is 87 years old, has faced health issues in recent years and uses a mobility scooter or a cane to move around. He has recently suffered from what doctors described as bouts of bronchitis or colds, which compelled him to shorten his speeches in front of audiences. Nonetheless, the book conveys a reassuring message regarding his health. Francis stated, "Thank God, I am in good health, and there are still many projects I will accomplish," and confirmed that he would only consider resigning in the event of a "serious physical impediment."
