The American-owned Haas F1 Team has announced the unexpected departure of its team principal, Guenther Steiner, and the appointment of Japanese engineer Ayao Komatsu as his successor. In a statement, Haas, supported by Ferrari, confirmed that the Italian Steiner has left immediately, as the team has fallen to last place in the Constructors' Championship in 2023 with only 12 points. Also departing from Haas is technical director Simone Resta, who previously worked at Ferrari, the team that supplies engines. Steiner became a fan favorite due to a series of documentary films produced by Netflix, in which he featured prominently. His departure, unless he resurfaces with another team on the grid, will be a blow to many who have recently been drawn to the sport.
