Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto stated in a press conference today, Tuesday, that "Hungary summoned the American ambassador to protest statements made by President Joe Biden during a campaign rally where he said that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban is seeking dictatorship." Szijjarto described Biden's statement as a lie and a "very serious insult." In response to a question at the press conference, Szijjarto said, "The way of thinking that President (Joe Biden) and the Democratic administration follow negatively impacts our bilateral relations." Orban met with Trump in Florida last week and praised him as the only presidential candidate capable of ending the war in Ukraine. U.S. media reported that Biden said during a campaign rally after their meeting that Orban "clearly stated that he does not believe democracy is successful and is seeking dictatorship."
