Recent media reports have addressed a crisis in relations between Hamas leader in the Gaza Strip, Yahya Sinwar, and Hamas leaders abroad. Israeli channel N12 reported that after some leaders of Hamas, including Khaled Mashal, Khalil al-Hayya, and Ismail Haniyeh, had discussions in Qatar with Palestinian Authority envoys regarding the post-war situation, Sinwar became furious. The political leadership of Hamas participating in the discussions, which included envoys from Abu Mazen, aimed to discuss the post-war period. Hamas leaders expressed their desire to establish a new and inclusive leadership representing the Palestinian people during wartime, in cooperation with the Palestinian Authority. Once Yahya Sinwar learned about these matters from his hiding place in the Strip, he became enraged and requested that communications be halted. He directed senior leaders to stop discussing the post-war scenario and to refrain from conversations on the subject. The report indicated that the disagreement among the leaders highlights two prevailing trends within Hamas's leadership, as some believe that the organization's leaders should prepare for the post-war period, while others, including Sinwar, insist that the battle has not yet been lost.
