French Intelligence Recommends Canceling Olympic Opening Ceremony Due to Increased Terror Threats

The French Directorate of Internal Security (intelligence) has recommended canceling the opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympic Games, set to be held in Paris and other cities, due to increasing terrorist threats. According to "Europe 1" radio, Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin is scheduled to visit the Directorate General of Internal Security to be briefed on the possibility of a coordinated attack during the Olympic opening ceremony in front of global media cameras. Among all European countries, France appears to be the most concerned about the risk of terrorist attacks in the upcoming weeks and months, especially with the Olympic events taking place in Paris and several major cities from July 16 to August 11, 2024. During this period, there will be an exceptionally high influx of foreign visitors to France, making Paris a focal point for the world. Hence, political and security authorities seem worried that terrorist organizations might exploit this opportunity to carry out an attack, which could undermine the sporting event and highlight France's failure to maintain public safety and security, while also providing terrorists with a promotional opportunity to reaffirm their presence on the international stage.
