Acting U.S. House Speaker Evicts Pelosi from Capitol

Acting U.S. House Speaker Patrick McHenry has ordered former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to vacate her office in the Capitol by Wednesday. According to Politico, an email was sent to Pelosi's office from a senior aide on the House Administration Committee stating: "Please clear the space by tomorrow; the room will be reopened," confirming that the room will be reassigned under the orders of the acting Speaker. McHenry, a close ally of McCarthy, became the first person to serve as acting Speaker of the U.S. House after the former Speaker Kevin McCarthy was ousted in a vote on Tuesday evening. Pelosi criticized the eviction in a statement, calling it a "blatant departure from tradition," adding that she had granted former Speaker Dennis Hastert "a much larger set of offices for the duration he desired" during her tenure. Pelosi was absent for the vote and remained in San Francisco to attend the memorial for the late Senator Dianne Feinstein, a longtime friend of the former Speaker. She stated: "Unfortunately, being in California mourning the loss of my dear friend Dianne Feinstein and honoring her, I am unable to retrieve my belongings at this time." Notably, only a select few chosen by House lawmakers receive hidden offices in the Capitol, compared to their usual presence in the Senate.
