Barcelona has made a harsh decision regarding their former Brazilian player, Dani Alves, following his official conviction for the rape of a young woman. A Barcelona court sentenced Dani Alves to 4 and a half years in prison for the rape that occurred on the night of December 30, 2022. According to the Catalan newspaper "Sport," Barcelona has removed Dani Alves' name from the club's list of legends.
The newspaper explained that this list includes 102 players who have worn the Barcelona jersey since the club's founding on November 29, 1899, with the founder, Joan Gamper, at the forefront. It was noted that Barcelona was cautious in this decision, maintaining the presumption of innocence for Alves, who was held in custody on January 20, 2023, while awaiting trial. However, once the official verdict was issued by the court, Barcelona made the decision to remove the player's name. Alves is considered one of the most significant players in Barcelona's history, having played 408 matches across various competitions over eight and a half seasons.
