Israel Arrests 6,000 Palestinians in 100 Days

Palestinian human rights organizations announced today, Wednesday, that Israel has arrested more than 6,000 Palestinians since October 7th, when the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) launched an attack on Israeli towns adjacent to the Gaza Strip. The organizations, including the Prisoners and Released Prisoners Authority, the Palestinian Prisoners Club, and the Addameer Prisoner Support and Human Rights Association, stated in a joint statement that "the number of arrests among women exceeded 200. This statistic includes women who were arrested from the territories occupied in 1948 (Israel)."

The organizations clarified in their statement that "the number of child arrests exceeded 355... by the end of December." Regarding the number of journalists who were arrested during this period, the statement indicated that "the number of arrests among journalists after October 7th reached 50, with 35 remaining in custody, and 20 of them were subjected to administrative detention."

Israel uses an old British law that allows the arrest of Palestinians without trial for a period ranging from three to six months on the grounds of having a secret file on the detainee. The statement indicated that the number of "administrative detention orders after October 7th reached more than 2,855 orders, including new orders and renewals."

The statement added, "The data regarding the arrest cases includes those whom the occupation has kept in detention, and those who were released later. This data does not include any information about the number of arrests from Gaza, as the occupation refuses to disclose it to this day, and commits the crime of enforced disappearance against them."

No comment has been issued from the relevant Israeli authorities regarding the Palestinian human rights organizations' statement, which affirmed that seven detainees "have died" in Israeli prisons since October 7th.
