Bayern Munich, the German football league champion, announced on Tuesday that veteran goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has signed a new contract that keeps him at the club until 2025. The 37-year-old Neuer joined the Bavarian team in 2011 from Schalke and was appointed team captain six years later.
Neuer returned to the field in late October after nearly a year out due to a serious knee injury sustained while skiing following Germany's exit in the group stage of the "Qatar 2022" World Cup. In a statement for the Bavarian club, Neuer said, "I am happy to stay at Bayern Munich for another year," adding, "After my long injury, I have returned in full strength. It is very enjoyable for me to be on the field with this team."
Neuer has won several titles with Bayern Munich, including the Champions League, twice winning the Club World Cup (in 2013 and 2020), the domestic league 11 times, the domestic cup 5 times, and the 2014 World Cup with the German national team. Bayern Munich currently stands in second place in the league, two points behind leaders Bayer Leverkusen, and has reached the knockout stage of the Champions League.
