A Spanish media report on Tuesday stated that Manchester City is targeting the signing of a former Barcelona player. According to the Catalan newspaper "Sport," Manchester City has set its sights on young Spanish defender Mika Marmol, currently with Las Palmas, to join the Premier League champions. The newspaper added that Pep Guardiola, the Manchester City coach, is impressed with Marmol's performance and wants to strengthen his team's defense by acquiring him.
The report mentioned that Barcelona is happy to hear about the potential sale of Marmol, especially since his contract stipulates that the club is entitled to 50% of the proceeds from his sale. Previous reports had linked Marmol with a move to Girona for 10 million euros before Manchester City intervened.
However, Manchester City intends to complete the deal and then loan the player to Girona to gain more experience. The newspaper noted that Las Palmas would have accepted Girona's offer of 10 million euros for the player, but with Manchester City's involvement, it is likely they will ask for a higher amount, which would benefit Barcelona.
