The Pakistani army stated that nine soldiers were killed when a suicide bomber on a motorcycle detonated himself beside a convoy in northwest Pakistan on Thursday. The army's public relations office reported that five other soldiers were injured in the attack, which occurred in the Bannu area. The army mentioned that security forces cordoned off the area. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack immediately.
Heartbroken by the loss of 9 valiant soldiers in Bannu Division, KPK, to a cowardly terrorist act that injured many. Such acts are utterly reprehensible. My thoughts are with the families of the martyred and injured. ?? stands resolute against such terror.— Anwaar ul Haq Kakar (@anwaar_kakar) August 31, 2023.
Northwest Pakistan, troubled by its border with Afghanistan, has witnessed an increase in attacks over the past year since the collapse of talks between Islamist militants and the government. Another suicide bombing during a political rally in the northwest last month resulted in the deaths of more than 60 people. The Islamic State (ISIS) claimed responsibility for that attack.
