Iraq: Ministry of Transport Clarifies Authenticity of Stray Dogs Video at Baghdad Airport

The Iraqi Ministry of Transport has clarified the authenticity of a circulated video showing stray dogs at Baghdad International Airport, roaming near aircraft and chasing airport vehicles and buses, which has sparked significant controversy. The Ministry stated that the video is old, dating back to 2022.

The spokesperson for the Ministry, Meetham Al-Safi, mentioned to the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that the re-circulation of the video was intended to undermine the progress made at Iraq's airports, particularly Baghdad Airport, and the ongoing efforts to reorganize airport operations and eliminate corruption.

Al-Safi emphasized that the Ministry is "continuing the process of developing Iraq's airports," and confirmed that "two plans are in place for upgrading Baghdad Airport." He added that "this issue will not deter the Ministry of Transport from the ongoing rehabilitation of the airport, combating corruption, and restoring order."
