Manchester City celebrated winning the English Premier League title today, Sunday, with a 1-0 victory over Chelsea, thanks to a goal by Julián Álvarez in his last appearance at the Etihad Stadium this season. City has 88 points from 36 matches, seven points clear of second-placed Arsenal, which has played 37 matches. Chelsea, managed by Frank Lampard, remains at 43 points, positioned 11th.
Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the owner of City, tweeted, "Congratulations to Manchester City on their well-deserved English Premier League title, for the third consecutive time. We extend our sincere congratulations to all the players and coaching staff led by Pep Guardiola and the fans everywhere. We look forward to the club continuing its achievements in all competitions and enhancing its status among global teams."
Álvarez scored the winning goal in the 12th minute after receiving a pass from Cole Palmer, striking the ball powerfully into the net past goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga. Álvarez thought he had added a second goal near the end, which was disallowed after a video assistant referee review, due to a handball by Riyad Mahrez.
City has claimed the league title for the third consecutive year and the fifth time in six seasons after Arsenal, in second place, lost 1-0 to Nottingham. The atmosphere was festive today, as Chelsea players formed a guard of honor to honor City players, who watched Arsenal's defeat together before the match began, while thousands of fans entered the pitch after the final whistle.
