Russian Official: Ukraine Shells Russian Village with Cluster Munitions

The Governor of Russia's Bryansk region, Alexander Bogomaz, reported that Ukraine fired cluster munitions at a Russian village near the Ukrainian border on Tuesday, resulting in damage to several homes. Bogomaz stated via the Telegram app that initial information suggests there were no injuries from the shelling that targeted the village of Klimovo. Reuters could not independently verify the claims made by the regional governor, who did not provide any visual evidence. No comments have been issued from Ukraine so far. Ukraine has received cluster munitions from the United States but pledged to use them only to drive enemy troop concentrations away. Russian officials in Bryansk and other regions bordering Ukraine have often claimed that the Ukrainian armed forces are indiscriminately shelling these areas. Over 100 countries prohibit the use of cluster munitions, which typically release a large number of small bombs that randomly kill people over a wide area. Unexploded small bombs pose a danger that can last for years.
