Bahraini Foreign Minister Visits Damascus for the First Time Since the Syrian Crisis

Bahraini Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Alzayani arrived in Damascus today, Sunday, for a visit that marks the first of its kind since the onset of the Syrian crisis. A diplomatic source stated to Sputnik that "Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Mikdad will meet his Bahraini counterpart Abdullatif bin Rashid Alzayani this afternoon in the latter's first visit to Syria since the start of the war."

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad received an official invitation from Bahraini King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa at the end of March to participate in the upcoming Arab summit. The Arab summit is scheduled to take place on May 16 in the Bahraini capital, Manama. Last year, Assad participated in the Arab League summit in Jeddah for the first time in eleven years following the suspension of Syria's membership.
