The Maronite Patriarch Bechara Rai, in his sermon during Sunday Mass, called on officials to restore "life to institutions beginning with the election of a president for the republic." He stated, "Let civil and political officials examine their consciences to see if the virtues of faith in God and love for Him are in their hearts. If they were in their hearts, they would dedicate themselves to ensuring the common good and tirelessly work to protect southern Lebanon and our people from war, which leads to casualties, injuries, displacement, and destruction, for a cause that has nothing to do with Lebanon and its issues, peace, and stability."
