Hundreds Arrested in Istanbul During May Day Gatherings

Turkish police arrested hundreds of demonstrators who gathered in Istanbul to celebrate May 1st (International Workers' Day). The Turkish Interior Ministry reported that "210 people were arrested during the Labor Day protests." The first clashes occurred when demonstrators attempted to breach police barriers to reach Taksim Square, which was the center of protests against President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in 2013.
