The British maritime security company Ambrey reported in a memo on Wednesday that it is aware of an incident occurring southwest of Aden in Yemen. Since the start of the war between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip, the Houthis have carried out dozens of attacks in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden against commercial vessels that they claim are "connected to Israel," leading to disruption of global maritime trade in this strategic region. The Houthis recently announced responsibility for attacking approximately 100 ships since the beginning of their operations. These attacks have resulted in increased insurance costs for vessels crossing the Red Sea, prompting many shipping companies to prefer the much longer route around the southern tip of the African continent. Washington has formed a multinational coalition to "protect" maritime navigation but has not succeeded in stopping the attacks.
