Iraqi Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, dismissed the commander of Nineveh Operations, Major General Abdullah Ramadan, from his position yesterday due to his participation in a segment of a Ramadan competition festival while wearing military attire. According to a document, the decision to relieve the commander was a result of "his disrespect to the military institution."
The appearance of Major General Abdullah Ramadan at a food festival in Mosul sparked reactions on social media, with users expressing both support and opposition to the event. Some criticized the commander for appearing in military uniform while interacting with families attending the festival, viewing it as undermining military dignity. Social media platforms circulated a video showing the operations commander asking trivia questions and announcing prizes for winners, such as mobile phones and household appliances.
On the other hand, some bloggers and activists from Mosul expressed solidarity with the Nineveh Operations commander in light of the criticisms directed at him on social media. Activists confirmed that "Major General Abdullah Ramadan al-Jubouri was involved in the operations to liberate Nineveh and dedicated himself to its liberation and supporting stability in the province."
