Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant indicated that "there are 4 options regarding the future of Gaza, all of which are bad," but he ranked them in terms of severity of harm. Israeli Channel 12 noted that "Gallant ranked the four options from worst to least bad," pointing out that the absolute worst option is the continued existence of the Hamas authority following the war.
Gallant added: "The second worst option is for Israel to be forced to impose a military regime on the Gaza Strip after the war, as this option would cost Israel many soldiers' lives, in addition to losing significant military resources and capabilities that would be drawn from the army's readiness on the northern border and in the West Bank."
He continued: "There is another less likely option, but it is less bad than the previous two, which is for the Gaza Strip to experience a state of chaos that drives the international community to invest substantial resources in it, leading to excessive involvement in the region. The fourth and final option, the least bad, is for the Gaza Strip to be governed by another local entity other than Hamas."
