The Mexican Ministry of Defense announced today, Saturday, the arrest of 16 military personnel suspected of involvement in the "execution" of five men, following video footage showing them beating the five men before shooting them. The ministry stated in a statement that a military court issued 16 arrest warrants on Thursday for the military individuals involved in "crimes that contradict military order." This decision comes after media outlets aired a video dated May 18 from Tamaulipas state in northern Mexico, showing about 12 soldiers surrounding a truck after it crashed into a wall while driving at high speed. The footage showed the soldiers pulling five individuals from the truck, punching and kicking them, then pushing them toward a wall. One soldier was seen pulling a long weapon from the truck. The soldiers appeared to take cover and fired at invisible targets from a distance before shooting the five men. President Andrés Manuel López Obrador stated in a press conference earlier this week that the incident involving the killing of the five men seemed to be an "execution."
