Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani called on Israel to halt its military operations in Gaza on Wednesday, asserting that it is time for a ceasefire in the Palestinian territory. Initially, Italy supported Israel's actions following the attack by the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas on southern Israel; however, its support has waned recently due to the deaths of thousands of civilians. In an interview with the daily newspaper "La Stampa," Tajani emphasized that the war in Gaza broke out due to the "barbaric" attack launched by Hamas. He added, "But a ceasefire is now necessary. Israel must stop the military operations that have significantly impacted the Palestinian population." The interview took place before a meeting of the foreign ministers of the G7 countries, hosted by Tajani on the Italian island of Capri. Notably, Italy currently holds the rotating presidency of the G7.
