Iraqi Interior Minister Abdul Amir Al-Shammari directed today, Sunday, to activate the smart signals and radars project. According to a statement from the ministry, "Interior Minister Abdul Amir Al-Shammari chaired a meeting today with the General Traffic Directorate, in the presence of the Undersecretary for Police Affairs and ministry advisors." The statement added that "the Minister of Interior directed during the meeting to accelerate the implementation of the smart signals project and to expedite its introduction on highways in Iraq." It also indicated that "the directive included the formation of a committee to study the highways that recorded high accident rates, particularly during the Arbaeen pilgrimage and major events," emphasizing the need to expedite the completion of the external roads that are under construction.
