Insomnia at Night... A Thinking Disorder or Illness?

Insomnia at Night... A Thinking Disorder or Illness?

There is no doubt that poor, irregular, and interrupted sleep negatively affects all aspects of life. But what are its causes and treatment methods? A recent analysis indicated that insomnia usually begins after waking up at night and continues due to the thought of not being able to sleep thereafter, according to Dr. Roman Bozonov, a specialist in sleep science and problems.

The specialist pointed out in an interview with Sputnik Radio that sleep consists of several stages, and physiological awakenings occur every two hours; healthy individuals simply do not pay attention to this. He explained that a healthy person wakes up every two hours, opens their eyes, turns over, changes position, then falls back asleep and forgets that they woke up, emphasizing that this is normal.

Problems arise when these awakenings cause the individual to feel anxious and believe they will not be able to sleep. This leads to the question, “What should I do?” The specialist noted that this tension causes a spike in blood pressure, after which the person cannot sleep due to the fear of not sleeping, creating a vicious cycle that can lead to severe disorders.

According to the same specialist, insomnia in many cases is not considered a disease but rather a disorder of thinking and behavior. Interestingly, the best method to treat such insomnia is to restrict sleep.
