An amazing lake is nestled in the desert, surrounded by mountains and sand dunes from all sides. Tourists from all over the world come to visit it, and no itinerary for a trip to Fayoum is complete without a visit to this site. In fact, dozens come specifically to see it and spend their entire day enjoying the view of its different colors. Its astonishing appearance captivates minds before eyes, with its extremely pure water that changes colors every hour, enchanting visitors who have dubbed it the "Enchanted Lake." But what is the story of this lake?
The so-called "Enchanted Lake" is located within the Wadi El Rayan Nature Reserve, near Mount Madora, and it is one of the most important tourist spots within the reserve. It boasts a unique and beautiful location, being a small lake surrounded by sand dunes on all sides, making it different from any other place.
It is named the "Enchanted Lake" because the color of its water changes throughout the day, from sunrise to sunset, depending on the reflection of sunlight on the water, which takes on several colors including crimson, blue, and green-blue, according to the sunlight that falls on it. Additionally, it serves as a fish farm due to its saline water.
Trips to the Enchanted Lake are marked by fun and adventure, featuring numerous activities such as camping, boating, skiing, walking on the sand, meditation sessions, safari trips, and barbecues. Some even camp next to the lake in tents. It is accessible via four-wheel drive vehicles that ascend Mount Madora and then descend to the lake located at the mountain's base.
