A 21-year-old woman suffered an allergic shock after discovering that she had drank a cup of coffee filled with insects at an airport. The young woman, who works for an airline, bought the drink from a vending machine at Son Sant Joan Airport near Palma de Mallorca. However, when she started drinking, she noticed that the taste of the coffee was strange, and after further inspection, she saw a swarm of insects floating in the cup she had just drunk from. She then suffered from an allergic shock, leading to swelling of her face and blockage of her throat, causing her to struggle to breathe. She also developed "various swellings" on her skin and was immediately transported to the hospital, where she spent 36 hours in the intensive care unit before being discharged. The young woman's family filed a complaint against the airport, arguing that the presence of insects in the coffee constitutes a potential crime. The family claimed that the vending machine was not well maintained by airport staff.
