UN Secretary-General António Guterres confirmed today that "136 UN staff members in Gaza have been killed during the past 75 days," stressing that this is something "the organization has not witnessed in its history." Guterres wrote on his account on the platform "X," stating, "136 of our colleagues were killed in Gaza within 75 days, which has never happened before in the history of the United Nations." He noted that most UN staff in Gaza "have been forced to leave their homes," adding, "I commend them and the thousands of relief workers who risk their lives while supporting civilians in Gaza." The Gaza Health Ministry announced on Friday that the death toll from the Israeli bombardment has risen to 20,057, with more than 53,320 injured since October 7.
