Macquarie Plans to Purchase 23 Aircraft from Kuwaiti Alafco for $1.1 Billion

Macquarie Air Finance, a company specializing in aircraft leasing, announced on Friday that it has agreed to purchase 23 additional aircraft from Kuwaiti Alafco for $1.1 billion. The company stated in a release that the deal mainly includes modern commercial passenger aircraft with an average age of approximately five years. This transaction adds to an existing agreement between Macquarie and Alafco for the purchase of 53 aircraft and an order for 20 Boeing 737 MAX planes for around $2.2 billion. The company stated, "Owning 23 additional aircraft will help facilitate the transition of the Macquarie Air Finance fleet to newer technology by adding more fuel-efficient models to reduce the average carbon emissions intensity." This deal raises the total number of aircraft that the aviation unit of the Macquarie Group intends to purchase from Alafco to 76 aircraft.
