The UAE Judo team won the bronze medal at the Paris "Grand Slam" Judo Championship, with athlete Naremand Biyan, aged 23, securing third place in the under 66 kg category. The team will conclude its participation in the tournament on Sunday with heavy weight competitions, featuring matches for athletes Grigory Aram in the under 90 kg and Dhafir Aram in the under 100 kg categories.
Naremand Biyan advanced past the French competitor Kevin Azima with an ippon in the overtime of the round of 64, then overcame Uzbek fighter Tilovov Fakhrudin in the round of 32, qualifying for the round of 16 where he triumphed over German champion Sitz Martin. Biyan had a strong bout in the quarter-finals against South Korean champion Ahn Pol but lost by a point, entering the group playoff where he achieved victory over Ukrainian fighter Iadov Bohdan. He then successfully surpassed Mongolian champion Yondo Bascu to earn the bronze medal.
At the end of the group qualifiers, Nasser Al Tamimi, a member of the National Olympic Committee and Secretary-General, honored the winners. Mohammed bin Thaloub Al Dhaheri, President of the UAE Judo Federation, congratulated the team members in Paris for Naremand Biyan's historic medal achievement at the championship. Al Dhaheri indicated that this success reflects the support of the wise leadership for the youth and sports sector, as well as the efforts of the National Olympic Committee, the General Authority of Sports, and the continuous oversight of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council.
