Bou Habib: The Need to Change the Approach to the Syrian Displacement Crisis Before It's Too Late

Foreign Minister and Emigrants Abdullah Bou Habib received the European Union Ambassador Sandra Du Val and emphasized the necessity of changing the approach to the Syrian displacement crisis and addressing it in a new and different way before it's too late. He called for a comprehensive review through dialogue and cooperation with European partners and donor countries in preparation for the upcoming Brussels ministerial conference for Syrian displaced persons scheduled for the end of May.

He also met with UNRWA Deputy Commissioner-General Ms. Natalie Boulkout, accompanied by the director of UNRWA affairs in Lebanon, Ms. Dorothy Klaus. The minister stressed the importance of UNRWA's work, especially amid the difficult and dangerous conditions in the region, where UNRWA remains a safety valve for Palestinians in Lebanon and neighboring countries, providing hope for a just solution to their issue. He highlighted the necessity of continuing funding for this agency.

Additionally, Bou Habib received the Italian Ambassador Ms. Nicoletta Bombardieri in a farewell visit on the occasion of the end of her diplomatic mission in Lebanon and wished her success in her new endeavors. He also welcomed Swiss Ambassador Ms. Marion Weichsel, where they discussed common issues between Lebanon and Switzerland, particularly the empowerment of women and their increased participation in political and public life.
