Scholz: Germany Cannot Accept Being Spied On

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz indicated that "Germany cannot accept being spied on by foreign countries and will work to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice." Scholz added in a joint press conference with British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak that the accusations and allegations against a politician and an official from the Alternative for Germany party are extremely concerning. He continued, saying: "We cannot accept being spied on, by any country." He confirmed that the arrests made of those suspected of espionage "should not lead to complacency, but rather should drive us to track down anyone who spies in our country." Scholz stated: "The allegations against the Alternative for Germany party are very concerning," adding that he would not make further statements to avoid impacting the legal proceedings. Scholz's remarks come after the arrest of an aide to a right-wing politician on charges of spying for China.
