The Gaza Health Ministry announced that Israeli shelling targeted the area surrounding Shifa Hospital in the sector. This occurred following reports of Israeli airstrikes coinciding with the launching of illuminating flares. Al-Jazeera reported clashes between Palestinian resistance factions and Israeli forces in the western part of Gaza City.
Mohammad Abu Salmia, the director of Shifa Hospital in Gaza, confirmed hearing very loud explosions around the hospital this evening. In a phone call with Sky News Arabia, he stated that "a state of terror and panic prevails among the patients and staff at the hospital," emphasizing that "evacuating Shifa Hospital endangers the lives of patients."
Palestine TV reported that intense shelling targeted the area around Shifa Hospital, adding that "the Israeli army used internationally banned phosphorus bombs in its attack on the hospital, which shelters thousands of civilians." In a related context, the Palestinian News Agency (Wafa) reported that dozens of Palestinians were killed and others injured in shelling on displaced individuals on Salah al-Din Street in the Gaza Strip. According to Sky News Arabia, most of the victims targeted in the strike were women, children, and the elderly.
