Chinese company ByteDance, the parent company of the TikTok platform, announced on Thursday that it has no intention whatsoever of selling its app despite the new U.S. law requiring it to sever ties with the social network or face a ban in the United States. The company stated on its owned Toutiao platform that "information from foreign media suggesting that ByteDance intends to sell TikTok is incorrect," emphasizing that it "does not plan to sell TikTok." The U.S. Congress considers the app a threat to national security due to its connection to the Chinese entertainment giant. On Wednesday, the Senate approved a text signed by President Joe Biden, which requires the Chinese parent company of TikTok to sell the app within 12 months, or it will be removed from the Apple and Google stores in the U.S.
