Israeli Minister Calls for Nuclear Strike on Gaza; Netanyahu Suspends His Government Participation

Amihai Eliyahu, the Israeli Minister of Heritage, suggested using a nuclear bomb to strike Gaza, advocating for its extermination and the establishment of Israeli settlements there. Eliyahu stated on Sunday that "dropping a nuclear bomb on Gaza is a possible solution," and referring to the captives held by Hamas, he remarked, "in war, there are costs." The Israeli minister emphasized that Gaza and its population must be eradicated, clarifying, "the Gaza Strip should not remain on the face of the earth, and we must re-establish settlements in it."

In response to Eliyahu's remarks, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that "Minister Amihai Eliyahu's comments about dropping a nuclear bomb on Gaza are disconnected from reality." Netanyahu also announced the suspension of Eliyahu's participation in government meetings. Meanwhile, Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid described Eliyahu's talk of using nuclear weapons in Gaza as "shocking and insane, and disrespectful to the families of the captives."
