The Administrative Control Authority in Egypt has managed to arrest several officials from the Ministry of Social Solidarity in various governorates, accused of committing forgery, facilitating the embezzlement of public funds, and bribery by exploiting exemptions and privileges granted by the state to individuals with disabilities to facilitate the importation of cars for those who are not eligible.
The Administrative Control Authority stated in a press release that "in implementing the directives of the President of the Republic to monitor the delivery of social protection services to those entitled and to collect the state’s dues, investigations by the Administrative Control Authority and data analysis in cooperation with the Ministry of Social Solidarity revealed that a number of citizens had obtained integrated service cards designated for individuals with disabilities and used them to import private cars without paying the required customs and tax fees, despite their ineligibility."
It added, "Expanding the scope of investigations revealed the involvement of some workers at social rehabilitation offices in committing forgery and facilitating the embezzlement of public funds and bribery in exchange for issuing those cards."
It was noted: "After presenting the case to the Attorney General, he issued a decision to detain the accused, leading to the seizure of cash and foreign currency as proceeds from the mentioned crimes, as well as the confiscation of a large number of integrated service cards issued unlawfully, along with national ID cards, counterfeit medical examination records from certain hospitals, and a printing machine used in forgery."
The statement highlighted that "after presenting the case to the Public Prosecution, a decision was made to provisionally detain the accused while investigations continue."
