The Russian national team defeated its Cuban guest with a score of eight goals to zero in a friendly football match held this evening in Volgograd, in front of over 40,000 spectators.
The home team took the lead with three goals in the first half scored by Ivan Oblyakov, Alexander Golovin, and Anton Miranchuk in the 22nd, 30th, and 34th minutes respectively.
In the second half, the Russian team added another five goals through Alexander Silyanov, Alexander Sobolev, Daniil Protsyv, Nikita Krivtsov, and Andrei Mostovoi, scoring in the 55th, 66th, 68th, 74th, and 78th minutes respectively.
Russian player Sergey Penyaev missed a penalty kick in the 85th minute, missing the chance to score a ninth goal and set a new record.
This was the first time in history that the Russian national team faced the Cuban team, which is ranked 169th in the world. It is worth noting that the Soviet Union team previously defeated the Cuban team with the same score (8-0) in a match during the Summer Olympics in Moscow in 1980, 43 years ago.
This is the third largest defeat for the Cuban national team in its history, following their loss to Sweden (0-8) in the 1938 FIFA World Cup finals.
