A court in Barcelona ruled today, Wednesday, to grant conditional release to Brazilian footballer Dani Alves on bail of one million euros, despite him having served only a quarter of his four and a half year sentence for rape. The decision, which was not unanimous, can still be appealed. The Brazilian player, who was sentenced last month to four and a half years in prison for rape, requested provisional release from a court in Barcelona on Tuesday pending the appeal decision. During a brief closed session, the prosecution expressed its objection to this request, citing a significant risk of flight. Alves' lawyer, Ines Guardiola, stated that her client, who has been detained since January 2023, has already served a quarter of his sentence issued in February and confirmed that he would not attempt to flee, according to judicial sources.
