Sierra Leone Security Forces Repel Attack on Military Barracks and Impose Curfew

The government of Sierra Leone announced today, Sunday, that the country's security forces are in control of the situation after unidentified gunmen launched an attack on military barracks and attempted to storm an armory in the capital, Freetown. The country has declared a curfew following the assault on military facilities. Information Minister Shernor Bah stated in a statement: "In the early hours of Sunday, unknown individuals attempted to break into an army armory at Wilberforce Barracks. They were repelled." He added: "A nationwide curfew is effective immediately. We advise citizens to stay indoors." The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) condemned the attempt by individuals "to obtain weapons and disrupt constitutional order" in Sierra Leone in a statement on Sunday.
