Kennedy Jr. believed that Trump "should not fear such a debate" given his experience in participating in debates. Trump had criticized Kennedy Jr. on social media, considering his candidacy a "trap" set by the Democrats to help current President Joe Biden in his re-election. It is noteworthy that Robert Kennedy Jr., the nephew of the 35th U.S. President John F. Kennedy, had previously announced his intention to run for the U.S. presidency as an independent candidate.
