U.S. President Joe Biden turned 81 years old today, Monday, marking a notable achievement as the oldest person to have held the presidency in the United States. In a Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted in mid-September, voters expressed concerns regarding Biden's age and his suitability for the position. The results showed that 77% of participants, including 65% of Democrats, said Biden is too old to be president. Meanwhile, 39% indicated that Biden's mind is sharp enough to serve a second term. Polls reflect that "Americans are worried about the potential impact of his age on his ability to hold the office for which he is seeking re-election." If Biden is re-elected, he will be 86 years old by the end of his second presidential term, whereas Republican Ronald Reagan, the previous record holder as the oldest U.S. president, was 77 years old at the end of his second term in 1989. Former President Donald Trump, the frontrunner for the Republican nomination to compete against Biden in the 2024 elections, is 77 years old.
