Chinese television reported that 19 people were killed and 30 others injured due to the collapse of a highway in Guangdong province in southern China. It was noted that "18 vehicles were found under the rubble, with 19 confirmed dead, and 30 others hospitalized, but their lives are not in danger." Rescue and firefighting personnel are still at the scene.
On May 1, a section of the Meilong Expressway in Guangdong province collapsed at around 2:10 am, and 18 vehicles fell into the sinkhole. 31 people were rescued and sent to the hospital, one of whom died later.
