The Director of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, warned of a potential new pandemic, stating that "its outbreak has become merely a matter of time."
According to U.S. media reports, Ghebreyesus told attendees at the Global Government Summit in Dubai that "the question regarding 'Disease X' is not whether it will hit the world, but when it will happen," indicating that a pandemic is inevitable. He explained that he had issued a similar warning in 2018 about the possibility of a pandemic, and it proved to be accurate with the outbreak of the deadly coronavirus.
Ghebreyesus emphasized that "the world is still unprepared to face a new pandemic," reiterating his call for a "global treaty on preparedness for the upcoming pandemic" by May, describing this treaty as "crucial for humanity."
It is noted that "Disease X" has not yet spread, but the World Health Organization uses this term to refer to certain unknown infectious cases that could potentially cause a pandemic if they spread across multiple countries, with expectations that it could be 20 times more deadly than COVID.
