The Muscat International Film Festival opened today, Sunday, for its eleventh edition at the Oman Film Society in the Airport Heights, under the theme "Renewed Oman." Festival Director Ammar Al Ibrahim stated in the opening speech, "We are here today to express our interest in art and cinema, to explore opportunities to invest in this art that has the power to achieve change, raise awareness, express national and Arab identity, and employ it effectively in society." He added, "The Sultanate of Oman is distinguished by its diverse natural and historical filming locations, making it an ideal destination for filmmaking. Through this festival, we seek to enhance international cooperation in the field of cinema and highlight Omani and Arab cinematic talents."
The festival, which runs until March 7, features 23 long films, both narrative and documentary, from 11 countries, along with 34 short films. In addition to the film screenings, a "Festival Market" is being held, which is a space that brings together those interested in the filmmaking industry, including institutions, production companies, and artistic platforms, to create opportunities for local and international collaboration, share experiences, and market various cinematic works. The festival also honors several film industry creators and stars, including Omani actress Buthaina Al Raisi, Bahraini director Ahmed bin Yacoub Al Muqla, and Palestinian director Mohamed Bakri.
