SpaceX announced that it is no longer receiving information about the Starship spacecraft's flight following its second test launch from the spaceport in Texas. The company stated, "We lost data from stage two. We believe we may have lost stage two."
The Starship spacecraft launched from the Boca Chica spaceport in Texas on November 18, at 7:02 AM Eastern Time (16:02 Moscow time). The first stage successfully detached at three minutes post-launch, and the vehicle passed the boundary of space, rising to 148 kilometers above the Earth's surface.
According to the company's calculations, the typical second test flight includes the vehicle orbiting the Earth before falling into the Pacific Ocean near the Hawaiian Islands. The Starship spacecraft is the largest and most powerful space system ever, with the Super Heavy rocket's first stage equipped with 33 Raptor engines. Elon Musk sees it as a promising transportation system that will be used for missions to the Moon and Mars. It is notable that the first launch attempt of the Starship vehicle, which occurred in April, ended in failure.
