The Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Mar Bechara Boutros Al-Rahi emphasized today that "the resurrection of the Lord is a call to remove fear from our souls and cultivate peace." In his Easter Mass sermon in Bkerke, he stated: "Our culture is to be makers of peace, not war. By what right do rulers of nations invade homes, destroy them, kill their inhabitants, and displace their residents? How can we accept this programmed killing and destruction in the Gaza War?"
He added: "How can we accept what rulers of nations are doing, and how should we accept being dragged into a war that could affect the south and possibly other places?" Al-Rahi continued: "We beseech Christ to speak to the hearts of the poor and the sick, who are deprived of the holiday due to suffering from the scourges of war and hunger. Only Jesus can send them messengers of goodwill." He concluded: "We need political, economic, social, and food peace."
