The Spanish government confirmed today, Tuesday, that it will make a decision regarding the suspension of the main candidate for the presidency of the Football Federation, while also determining, along with FIFA, how to reform the Spanish federation currently embroiled in a corruption scandal. José Manuel Rodríguez Uribes, head of Spain's National Sports Council, stated during a parliamentary session that he has called for a board meeting after the Spanish Sports Court examined a case against Pedro Rocha and the leadership of the Spanish federation for "very serious misconduct" on Monday. Additionally, a judge at a criminal court has begun a separate investigation into alleged corruption within the federation. Uribes mentioned in the session: "We have informed FIFA of our concerns and our determination to take all measures to ensure that a reputation-related crisis like this does not happen again." Rocha, who was acting as the federation's president and hoped to assume the presidency permanently next month, has been under investigation by a judge after appearing in court as a witness just days ago. He was the sole candidate to succeed former president Luis Rubiales.
